The top of a taiko drum with bachi (Drumsticks)

One-to-One

The power of the drum

So here is a drum. An empty drum. You can come to it with whatever you have – a chattering mind, judgements about ourselves, it, or others, a façade we want others to see, with an openness, curiosity…

The invitation is to be here as you are. We begin with breath, and then our body, and then move to the drum. This is an opportunity to step into yourself, in a safe and gentle and loving space, taking time for you. For us to be curious about what comes up, and to have the courage to stay with it, and to then release it, transforming it and to send it out into the world.

"Before I came I felt stressed, tired and generally annoyed. After a couple of hours I felt awake, a release of stress and engaged."

"I feel 'in touch', exhilarated, energised, 'heard'."

Participants, after one session.

How to begin

Sessions are 2-3 hours, beginning with a walk, a hot drink, and a talk.

We then move into the studio, where we will begin.

Comfortable clothing with layers, and non-slip socks or slippers are useful, especially in winter.

If you'd like to get in touch to see if this is something that might be useful to you, say hello here, or send an email to hj@taikojourney.com.

"This was profoundly powerful and challenging for me, triggering a bittersweet mix of deeply painful emotions whilst at the same time providing me with feelings of healing, comfort, hope and empowerment. "

Vee, who's connection with the drums gave her so much.

About me

My name is Hannah, also known as Hannah-Jasmine, or HJ.

I have been working with people and drums for over 15 years. In the movement, voice and rhythm of taiko drums we can explore our relationships - with land, place, with community, and with ourselves. I have experienced and witnessed powerful change in people, working through these drums. And the great thing is - it's so easy. There they are, waiting for us to be

“HJ integrates a mindful approach to her teaching.  She offers beauty and genuine connection that extends beyond the studio and into daily life. She is passionate about sharing taiko for personal and social transformation—to open our hearts and minds.”  PJ Hirabayashi, TaikoPeace activator/founder, San Jose Taiko founding member
